Last month, I met sweet baby Reese when she came to the KP Photography studio in Norfolk, Nebraska for her newborn portraits. She was a dream to photograph, quite literally, as she slept through almost her entire session. She was only awake for a couple minutes and did not cry at all during the whole two and a half hours that she was with me.
Whenever I book a newborn appointment, I always send a short questionnaire to the parents to get a better idea of what they would like out of the session. Questions like, "What color is your nursery?" "Are there any colors that you want to avoid?" "Do you have any special requests or props you would like to use?" Cindi, Reese's mom, mentioned that she had a grey box that she would like to use, and would really like it if we could do an outdoor portrait if weather permitted. Typically, I only photograph newborns indoors where I can keep my studio at a warm eighty degrees, but luckily, it was a warm July morning and the weather was perfect for a newborn. I had a pesky patch of clovers just outside my studio which I typically despise in my lawn, but they actually photographed beautifully! I certainly think I will have to start incorporating more outdoor setups into my newborn sessions as I really enjoyed how this one turned out!
Reese's mom also mentioned to me that she wanted to have some family portraits taken since she and her husband had never had a professional portrait taken together. What better time to have a professional portrait taken, then by the celebration of their first born child?! Since Reese slept so well, we were able to do a couple different setups to give them some variety to choose from...and she even gave us a couple smiles during that portion of the appointment too!
Newborns have always been my favorite subjects to photograph, and Miss Reese was no different. Here are just a few of my favorite images from her first photo session! Congrats again to this lovely family!
