Say hi to Baby Abigail!
When Miss Abigail Mae came to my studio last week, she was six days old and such a sweet girl. I photographed her parents' wedding a couple years ago, so it was an honor to meet their newest addition to the family.
A few minutes into her session, she decided she was not ready to sleep, so after she had a bit to eat, I swaddled her up and gave her no choice. Between the warm room, the soft white noise, and being wrapped up tight, she was out in no time. Abigail's mom wanted some pops of color with her session, so I gave her a bit of variety between neutrals and colors.
I have a new love of posing babies in boxes or buckets. This burnt orange and black was not a combination that I had done yet, but I really like the way it turned out. We also did a potato sack pose on the fur. Abigail was wrapped in the same white wrap for all these images with a new layer over the top of her wrap in each of these images. When a baby is just getting into a deep sleep while being wrapped, I try to do very minimal movements to ensure that they stay in that deep sleep. With the use of different props, backdrops, and slight adjustments with hands and angles, you can do quite a bit with one wrap.
I actually stretched the use of that white wrap a little further, and used it under this purple layer to keep her feeling secure. I started off with her hands still tucked in the wrap, and then slowly brought her arms out to get these adorable "tucked in" shots.
At the end of the session, we finally attempted some bean bag poses and Miss Abigail did wonderful! She was in a deep sleep and even gave us a few smiles. Her mom really wanted the "side lay" pose so that was one pose I really wanted to nail before we completed the session. Abigail must have known I got the shot, because she woke up and told us she was done modeling for the day!
And at the very end of the session, when she was hungry wanting her mama, I managed to get one wide eyed picture to show off her beautiful eyes!
Thank you Abigail and family for letting me document your first professional portraits! I hope to capture many more milestones for you!
Are you thinking about scheduling a newborn portrait session for your little one? I usually suggest booking your session in your second trimester or early third trimester to guarantee availability around your due date, since I photograph newborns between five to fourteen days after delivery. However, I also take last minute sessions too if my schedule allows it. Please contact me today if you are interested. I would love to chat with you!
